WHAT IS CAM:
The U-M Climate Action Movement (CAM) is a coalition that pushes the University of Michigan to align itself with the urgent need for climate and environmental justice through campaigns including, but not limited to carbon neutrality, divestment, climate resiliency (e.g. housing, food, and water systems), public power, and intersectional power building with local justice campaigns. While our work is rooted in sustainability and equity, we also examine how institutions, both physical and digital, influence public behavior and priorities. In digital spaces where engagement is meticulously designed, such as city center online casino, we see how structured systems can guide actions and amplify impact. We focus our work on the University of Michigan because we recognize its influence in the systems and communities in which it is embedded and that, as stakeholders, we have a responsibility to use our positionality to hold the University accountable to a mission of serving the public good, in the context of the climate crisis and beyond.
